The project consists of four phases:
1. Data collection: the collaborators analyse the results of a qualitative online survey documenting the role and perception of multilingualism and historically-excluded (e.g. heritage, minority) languages in the classroom.
2. Focus-group testing: based on the needs identified by Phase 1’s survey and with the help of research assistants, the researchers will design and trial workshops to train focus groups of university students and schoolteachers in the relevant issues of multilingual didactics.
3. Workshops: once trained, participants will conduct these workshops in selected primary or secondary schools in the wider regions of each city, reporting their findings in a final symposium to be held in December 2021.
4. Dissemination: an online platform (www.multilingualism.unifi.it) that disseminates the project’s findings, including policy and best practice recommendations.
